Carol Pelz of Pelz Library Group
Carol Pelz received her MLS and Business degrees from Indiana University in 1975. Following graduation, she served as a Director of three medium-size public libraries in Indiana and served as the Fine Arts and Audio Visual Manager at Allen County Public Library (Fort Wayne, IN). She came to Ohio as the Manager of Audio Visual for Columbus Metropolitan Library (Columbus, OH) and later became the Coordinator of Adult Services for the system.
Carol accepted the directorship of the Grandview Heights Public Library (Columbus, OH) in 1985. During her 23 year tenure as Director, the Library passed numerous levies with exceptionally high approval rates, conducted two building revisions, established a Library Endowment valued just under $1 million and instituted many public programs with a focus on technology for public service excellence. Grandview has either ranked in the top ten libraries of its class or has placed regularly in the 98th percentile of the Hennen Ratings. In 2009 the Library received one of the first Library Journal 5 Star Library Awards for performance during her tenure.
Carol, along with three other Library Directors, founded the Central (Ohio) Library Consortium (CLC) in 1987. The CLC offers numerous databases, cooperative purchasing and cataloging, and digitization services to the membership. The CLC was among the first in Ohio to institute daily delivery among the members to share materials and to do cooperative licensing of databases. Carol administered the CLC until her retirement in 2008.
Carol’s consulting career began 10 years ago from the need of Library Trustees in small and medium-sized public libraries who wanted an informed practitioner to assist in Director Search, goal setting and HR issues. The primary client focus has been in the Director Search process, Mentoring, Community Analysis, and Goal Realization.
Having retired with 30 years of personnel and Library management experience, Carol has joined with Russ Crabtree of HolyCow!Consulting to present the finest in consulting expertise. Their goal is to assure the future success of Libraries by giving them quality assistance and management tools for the future.
